Fulfilling God's Will -
Are You Taking Care of God's Temple?
By
Julie Hall
As a believer in
Jesus, scripture tells us that our bodies are God's temple and
His Spirit in fact lives within us. But, are we overloading our
bodies in ways that hinder us from fulfilling God's purpose?
Ephesians 4:10 says we are products of God's workmanship,
created in Christ Jesus to do good works. If the health of the
temple is in question, then surely our works will also be less
than they could be.
As Christians,
we must first acknowledge that we are under constant pressure
from the world around us, and it’s easy to buckle under the
strain of today’s fast paced society. We all know that we “are
what we eat”, yet we continue to compromise our bodies by eating
unhealthy foods due to time constraints and effective marketing
on the part of vendors. Poor food & drink choices in turn place
stress on our immune systems. We add to the stress-concoction
trying to balance work and family, not to mention the pressure
on men in particular, to succeed financially as we strive for
the constant stream of material possessions we’re told we need.
This stress-filled cycle, with its many facets, sets many of us
up for overload, hastening the onset of chronic disease, and
defeating us both mentally and physically.
